Privacy policy
Effective date: 28 September 2026.
ExamQ is built to need as little personal data as possible. Study history is never tied to a name or email. Here is what the app and server collect today:
- Review events
- Which card you studied and how the review went: the grade, how long it took, and when. Tied to your device or account id, never to a name or email. Kept for 180 days, then deleted; the daily totals used to check the study schedule carry no identifier and are kept after that.
- Study bursts
- One row per quick burst: how many cards, how many you got right first time, how long it took, and whether you finished it. No card is named. Kept for 180 days, then deleted.
- Readiness snapshots
- A daily score of how ready you are for an exam, per topic, tied to your device or account id. Kept until you delete your account.
- Outcomes
- Whether you report passing, failing or not sitting after your exam date, stored with your readiness score at that moment. Answering is optional. Kept until you delete your account.
- Exam choice
- Which exam you picked, your target date if you set one, and when you picked it.
- Device id
- A random identifier created when you install the app, used to keep your study history and purchases straight. No IP address, name or email is stored alongside it.
- Sign in with Apple
- Optional. If you sign in, we store the account identifier Apple gives us and a refresh token, so we can revoke it if you delete your account. We do not ask Apple for your name or email address, and we do not store either.
- Purchases
- When you buy a pack, the App Store's signed record of the transaction is sent to our server and stored so we can check it is genuine, together with which pack you bought and whether it was a test or a real purchase.
- Card reports
- If you report a problem with a card, the reason and any note you add (up to 1000 characters). Kept for our triage queue; if you delete your account, the report stays but is no longer linked to your device.
- Exam requests
- If you ask for an exam we do not have yet, what you typed is stored so we know what to build next. It is stored against a scrambled, one-way version of your device id rather than the id itself, so we cannot trace it back to your device.
- Card quality reviews
- A separate, hidden mode the founder uses to judge cards while studying them, which sends a verdict and how long it took. Learners cannot turn this mode on; it exists so cards can be checked before publication.
What stays on this device
Some things ExamQ keeps never reach our server at all:
- The badges you earn and your Home Screen widgets. Both are worked out from your study history on the device and kept in a shared container so the app and its widgets can read them. Neither is sent to us.
No tracking, no ads
Neither the app nor this site runs analytics, advertising or third-party tracking of any kind. This site sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts.
Who processes this data
Cloudflare hosts our server, database and file storage, and processes data on our instructions. Apple provides Sign in with Apple and handles your payment when you buy a pack; we only receive the signed record that a purchase happened. Nobody else processes your data, and none of it is sold.
Downloading or deleting your data
Signing in with Apple is optional. Everything works without it. Once you are signed in, Settings gives you two rights:
- Download my data sends you everything stored against your account and your devices, as the server holds it.
- Delete account removes your account and, in one step, your review history, study bursts, readiness snapshots, exam outcomes, exam choices, purchase records and sessions. Your device stops being linked to the account, though the install itself keeps working. A card report you filed stays in our triage queue but is no longer linked to you. Cards and progress kept on the device itself are not affected and are removed only by deleting the app.
If you never sign in, your study history is tied to your device only, and is removed by deleting the app. There is currently no server-side deletion route for a device that has not signed in; sign in first, then delete the account, if you want your device's history erased from our server as well.
Legal basis
For UK and EU learners, study history is stored under the lawful basis of contract, the basis for processing needed to run the study plan you are using.
